  7. This document contains information that is important, and information 
  8. that is too new to have been incorporated in the User's Manual.

  10. Included in this document:

  12. 1)  "SOFTWARE DISK CONTENTS" - This describes the contents of the WACOM 
  13.     Driver Disk.
  14.  
  15. 2)  "WACOM DIRECTORY CONTENTS" - This lists the files that are copied to
  16.     the C:\WACOM directory on your computer as well as a brief decription
  17.     of what each file is / does.
  18.  
  19. 3)  "WINTAB COMPATIBLE APPLICATIONS" - This describes how Wintab compatible 
  20.     programs behave differently from other applications.
  21.  
  22. 4)  "ERASER-AWARE APPLICATIONS" - Information on applications that support
  23.     the UltraPen's Eraser.
  24.  
  25. 5)  "OBTAINING SOFTWARE UPDATES" - Contains information on downloading 
  26.     software updates.

  28. For information about known bugs, compatibility issues, and modifications 
  29. that the installation program makes to your specific Windows system refer 
  30. to the appropriate text file in the WIN subdirectory.

  35.                         SOFTWARE DISK CONTENTS

  38. The WACOM software diskette contains several files in the root directory.
  39. There are directories containing installation files, a test utility and 
  40. software drivers for specified hardware platforms and operating systems.
  41. These directories contain text file(s) that have information on installing 
  42. and using these programs.

  47.                        WACOM DIRECTORY CONTENTS

  50. The installation procedure will create the C:\WACOM directory on your
  51. computer and copy/expand several files into it.  The contents of that
  52. directory are listed below.
  53.  
  54.       README.TXT     --> This file.
  55.       WTEST.TXT      --> Text file explaining how to run WTEST.EXE.
  56.       WIN31.TXT      --> Specific Windows 31 information.
  57.       WIN95.TXT      --> Specific Windows 95 information.
  58.       NTINTEL.TXT    --> Specific Windows NT information.
  59.       WTEXT.COM      --> DOS Test File for checking tablet status.
  60.       UNINST95.EXE   --> Uninstall program for Windows 95.  See the 
  61.                          WIN95.TXT file for more information.
  62.       UNINSTNT.EXE   --> Uninstall program for Windows NT.  See the
  63.                          NTINTEL.TXT file for more information.

  68.                     WINTAB COMPATIBLE APPLICATIONS

  71. When changes that affect the tablet scaling are made to the WACOM Control 
  72. Panel those changes are saved to the default tablet context.  These default 
  73. settings are used for the desktop and for all applications that are not 
  74. Wintab compatible.
  75.  
  76. When a Wintab compatible application is launched a new tablet context is 
  77. created.  This context maintains unique tablet data for the application.
  78.  
  79. Most graphics applications use the default context settings.  If a Wintab 
  80. compatible application is already open, any scaling changes that are made in 
  81. the WACOM Control Panel will not take effect until the next time the 
  82. application is launched.

  84. Most CAD applications (like AutoCAD and Microstation) create a custom tablet 
  85. context.  Settings in the WACOM control panel that affect tablet scaling like
  86. portion of tablet, one-to-one aspect, or relative positioning will not 
  87. function while this application is in the foreground.  When switching to the 
  88. desktop the default context settings will be in effect.

  93.                        ERASER-AWARE APPLICATIONS

  96. Under Windows 95 the ArtPad II and ArtZ II have built-in eraser support for 
  97. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Word Perfect and whenever a standard edit
  98. text box is used such as in Notepad.  To activate this support, select
  99. Context Aware in the Eraser Setting dialog box of the WACOM Control Panel.

  101. The following graphic applications are eraser-aware and have built-in support
  102. for the Erasing UltraPen:
  103.  
  104.   Adobe Photoshop 3.0.4 & 3.0.5
  105.    Win 3.1 - Built in support for the eraser under Windows 3.1 is planned
  106.     for a future release of Adobe Photoshop.
  107.    Win 95  - Eraser support under Windows 95 requires the PRESSURE.8BX
  108.     plug-in located in the ADOBE subdirectory.  When the eraser end of
  109.     UltraPen is placed on the tablet, Adobe Photoshop will automatically
  110.     switch to the eraser tool.
  111.    Win NT  - Support for the Erasing UltraPen is built into Windows NT.
  112.     When the eraser end of UltraPen is placed on the tablet, Adobe Photoshop
  113.     will automatically switch to the eraser tool.  Do NOT use the plug-in.

  115.   CorelPhoto Paint 6.0 Rev B
  116.     Support for the Erasing UltraPen is built-in.  When the eraser end of the 
  117.     UltraPen is placed on the tablet, Photo Paint will allow you to erase the 
  118.     last stroke.

  120.   Fractal Design Painter 4.0
  121.     Support for the Erasing UltraPen is built-in.  When the eraser end of the
  122.     UltraPen is placed on the tablet, Painter will automatically switch to
  123.     the eraser tool.

  125.   Fractal Design Dabbler 2.0 & 1.1a
  126.     Support for the Erasing UltraPen is built-in.  When the eraser end of the 
  127.     UltraPen is placed on the tablet, Dabbler will automatically switch to 
  128.     the eraser tool.
  129.     Note: Sometimes, when switching quickly between the pen tip and the
  130.           eraser, the tool will not change.  This is more noticable on slower
  131.           systems and when there is a lot of disk access going on.
  132.     Note: Dabbler is currently not Windows NT compatible.

  134.   FutureWave SmartSketch 1.0R2 & 95
  135.     Support for the Erasing UltraPen is built-in.  When the eraser end of the 
  136.     UltraPen is placed on the tablet, SmartSketch will automatically switch 
  137.     to the eraser tool.

  139.   Ron Scott QFX 5.1
  140.     Support for the Erasing UltraPen is built-in.  When the eraser end of the 
  141.     UltraPen is placed on the tablet, QFX will either undo the last paint 
  142.     stroke or erase with pressure.
